Virginia Wilson Mounger is an Administrative Judge with the Mississippi Workers' Compensation
Commission. Prior to joining the commission in 1994, she was engaged in the private practice of law and served as
the City of Jackson Public Defender. Ms. Mounger has also worked for Southern Natural Gas and its exploration
division, SONAT, Inc., as legal counsel and landman, having devoted much of her past legal experience with an
emphasis on oil and gas law and investments.
Ms. Mounger graduated from the University of Mississippi Law Center in 1979 where she served on the Moot Court
Board and was a Dean's List Scholar and recipient of an American Jurisprudence Award. Ms. Mounger is a member
of the Phi Alpha Delta Legal Fraternity and the Lamar Order, and completed graduate studies at University College,
Oxford University, Oxford, England. Ms. Mounger is a graduate of the National Judicial College, Reno, Nevada.
Ms. Mounger is a member of the American Bar Association, the Mississippi Bar Association, the Administrative
Law and Workers' Compensation Section, and the Mississippi Women Lawyers Association, as well as a former
member of the Women in the Profession Committee. Ms. Mounger currently serves as Chairman of the Board of
Governors for the Wilson Research Foundation of the Methodist Rehabilitation Center. Ms. Mounger is active in
numerous civic and legal organizations on both a local and national level and a frequent lecturer on Mississippi
Workers' Compensation Law.
Ms. Mounger is a former Board Member of the Junior League of Jackson, Inc. and now a sustaining member. She is
past president of Goodwill Industries Volunteer Services, Inc. (GIVS), a recipient of the Volunteer of the Year
Award and has served on the Board of Goodwill Industries, Inc. Ms. Mounger was chosen as one of the 50
Leading Business Women by the Mississippi Business Journal.
